Michael Wygant graduated from Gahanna-Lincoln High School in 1989 where he found his home in the instrumental music department. Under the direction of Jeff Shellhammer, Mike was a percussionist in the marching and concert bands and enjoyed playing for all band events. His love of percussion also drew him to participate in Limited Edition Drum and Bugle Corps in the summers. Although initially a percussion major, Mike got his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Capital University. He pursued his love of the outdoors by moving to Boulder, Colorado.

Mike was an avid hiker, snow-boarder and golfer and was subsequently joined in these activities by his wife, Erin and sons, Hayden and Garrett. He finished his professional career as a computer tech for the family software business.

Mike succumbed to Covid 19 and passed away in March 2021. Since his participation in instrumental music was a formative experience for him, his family and friends have established this memorial fund in his name to benefit the Gahanna Lincoln High School instrumental music program and its student musicians.

The goal of this Memorial Fund is to support the instrumental music program. Disbursement decisions will be made jointly by the Wygant family, the foundation director(s), and the teachers. Examples of fund disbursements on an annual basis could include but not be limited to:

  • Providing student scholarships for private lessons
  • Providing individual students with instruments
  • Funding a commissioned piece for performance by a band or orchestra
  • Funding other needs as requested by the band or orchestra directors that directly support the students in the instrumental music program.
